Billowy white powder
Dusting my face.
“It’s snowing” I said,
And you pushed off, down the mountain.
Until that moment I had been
Holding my own keeping up with you;
Keeping secrets, holding my breath
A game of wait and see if you dump me
When you know the truth.
I lost you in the moguls
And have avoided them ever since.
Around the bend, half way down
From chair lift number three,
Steep, smooth mountain, mogul-free,
You were waiting for me.
You smiled The Smile
that melted fear
into something that existed before I met you.
I closed my eyes and 34 years
Passed in one night.
“My fears have been realized”
I said last night.
You promised through choked back tears
To wait for me
There in the snow bank,
Half way down from
Chair lift number three.

Your love story is positively beautiful, Deb. That beauty is what keeps you strong enough to set your fears aside for now.

Tears. Moguls cannot be avoided, but how we would if we could. Write, Deb. Catch these moments and hold them.

This makes me smile and feel sad all at the same time!
How beautiful and sad at the same time. Your words are a reminder of love that continues long after the mortal ending to ones blessed life. You are loved and blessed, dear Deb.
